We are called by conscience and compassion to stand with women and girls living with obstetric fistula—those whose silent suffering is too often hidden and whose dignity has been eroded.
Our mission is to raise awareness, foster understanding, and advocate for justice.
Obstetric fistula is not just a medical issue—it is a profound human rights concern. It reflects deep social inequality and a lack of access to public health services for the most vulnerable in society.
For true justice to be practiced, prevention and not only treatment is required. After all this condition is preventable. This means ensuring that women and girls—especially those in rural and underserved communities—have timely access to quality maternal healthcare.
Preventing obstetric fistula requires ongoing investment in the training and upskilling of all birth attendants (midwives and traditional birth attendants), accessible emergency obstetric services, and community education that empowers women to seek care at all stages of pregnancy.
We must celebrate, encourage and replicate good practices that are already making a difference—mobile clinics reaching remote villages, training programs for rural health workers, and maternity waiting homes that bring care closer to those most at risk.
Through education, solidarity, and action, we seek to ensure that no woman is left behind, no girl is silenced, and that all who are affected receive the care, respect, and protection they deserve.
Their healing—and their protection—is a shared responsibility and a true measure of
Core Values.
Human Dignity
Every woman and girl has intrinsic worth. Upholding their human dignity is foundational to justice and compassion.
Justice
We strive to correct the systemic and social inequalities—economic, geographic, and gender-based—that contribute to obstetric fistula.
Solidarity
We stand with those most affected, working as true partners to advocate for care, protection, and empowerment.
Accountability
We hold ourselves and others accountable for ensuring access to healthcare, promoting awareness, and preventing unnecessary suffering.
Guiding Principles
Prevention First
Preventing obstetric fistula is a moral imperative for us. Timely, quality maternal care must be prioritized alongside repair treatment and rehabilitation.
Universal Access to Care
Every woman, regardless of location, has the right to accessible, quality maternal health services. Those in remote and disadvantaged areas deserve preferential concern.
Empowerment Through Education
Knowledge is key to prevention. Raising awareness and educating men and women in communities fosters prevention and strengthens voices.
Inclusivity and Non-Discrimination
All women and girls, everywhere, deserve equal access to healthcare, free from prejudice, exclusion and discrimination.
